Scare Tactics
I started a lawn care business in 1980. We fertilized grass, treated weeds , fungus and insects. I have spread more granular fertilizer, treated more chinch bugs and brown patch than anyone you are likely to talk to about grass. I know a lot about general gardening but I really know a lot about St. Augustine lawns in Houston.
An older gentleman was in today that was very worried about his lawn. A national lawn care company left a door hanger that stated he had all kinds of things to worry about in his lawn. Chinch bugs, brown patch and the tell tale lie... gray leaf spot disease. They claimed that gray leaf spot was not only on his grass but was running rampant throughout his shrubs and trees. Gray leaf spot that does damage in lawns does not attack shrubs or trees. This mans lawn looked good but these guys try to make you believe that if you don't hire them to take care of your lawn than it may die. I have personally seen these companies leave door hangers that state lawns have chinch bugs and gray leaf spot in January. No. Never. No way. They are lying!
Your lawn cannot be infested with chinch bugs and look good. Brown patch is painfully obvious. Gray leaf spot is a minor disease and rarely needs treatment. Ask us for a second opinion. We are here to help you. Not take advantage of you.

Right on! The next time I come across a grass situation I can not figure out I know who to call.
