Strive for Excellence
I have been asked to speak at a trade show early next month. I have accepted. My topic is "How to compete with Home Depot when they open next door to you. It happened to me!" I resemble that topic and Dan Snyder, owner of Nitro Phos, recognized this. This is his trade show and he invites his customers to peruse his brands, order Spring and Fall merchandise and attend seminars devoted to educating his customers.
OMG! People in this industry in Houston will be looking to me for knowledge and guidance. I get to speak immediately after a local university professor speaking on the same subject. We will be speaking from different perspectives. I bet he has not loaded bags of mulch in the back of a mini-van recently... and I have not studied research, his students have collected, on loading mulch in the back of a mini-van, recently.
If you have not guessed yet... I write this blog to share my experiences, my knowledge and to promote independent nurseries in and around Houston. The green, retail industry, that I love so much. The industry that I want to leave intact for my children.
I pray that I have the ability to convey my knowledge and enthusiasm to others....that I want to succeed. That includes every owner-operated, under capitalized, honest, hard working retail nursery. This category of plant sellers in the Houston area is in peril.
I want to be inspiring for their good. I hope those who attend will trust me and have the fortitude to strive for excellence.
