Moving On

I said goodbye today to an employee who had worked part time for us for the last three years. Last day, last paycheck, an opportunity to really reflect on what we meant to him.  Eric is a fine young man and he is now off to Texas A&M to start his college career this Fall. He admitted how much he will miss us and his job.
This year, on Fathers Day, I asked all my young employees if they got their Fathers a card for Fathers Day. Eric was the only one that was ahead of the curve.  He had already bought his Father a card. The other young employees were "gonna" get a card. Yea, sure!
Eric's Father is not well. He has ALS, Lou Gehrigs disease. Eric understands the things in life that are important. I know that we are "down the line" but he still made the effort and said the words to let us know how he felt. I gave the kid a small paycheck but a handshake and a manly hug. I mentioned something about drinking and drugs. My daughter, Kelly, offered co-ed advice. Eric was good to go. His strong family influence points him in the right direction and we always hope to keep him moving in that way.  Best of luck kid!

You and your family are the best Victor. Eric knows that and will be back to see you guys. I'm sure he learned a lot about love, life, and family from all of you Flaherty's.
