Houston Business Journal

I interviewed for an article with the Houston Business Journal a couple of weeks ago while I was in Chicago for the Independent Garden Center Show (IGC).  Dana Flores set up the interview and is our new marketing consultant. Dana has been a great resource to help us get our message out in the market. We have spent 35 years quietly serving our customers and a year and a half shouting from the rooftops. Shouting garners the attention my small business needs. We do try not to be obnoxious while we are in the shout mode. I hope we have succeeded.  Houston Business article on Plants For All Seasons

We are seeing the same thing here in the foothills of northern California. Our sales are up 20%, too. My revenue is, however no where near yours. Yet your first 10 years we're a struggle to survive. We are in our fifth year. So we just keep plowing ahead, looking for those areas where the box stores are not.

It's encouraging that in this recession there are pockets of prosperity. I believe that it's not just the economy that's at work, but fundamental changes in our society that are in play. I think like you, if you give the customers whet they are looking for at a reasonable price you can survive and thrive in this economy.
