Urgent Race For The Cure
My daughters Kelly and Sherri wanted our business to do something to give back to our customers and to the community. Most of our customers are women over the age of 30. They decided to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation this October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They are in charge of 2 flocks of plastic pink flamingo's that move from home to home to roost. Folks can summon the birds to land in their friends yards for a $25 donation. If those friends want to get the flock out of there they can donate $25 and give the girls a new address. They started this Friday and by this morning have raised over $250. The reason that they have raised so much money in 3 days, at $25 per house, is that some of the neighbors are giving checks to the flockees to send to us. These voluntary donations were totally unexpected. We hope they will continue. The girls expect to raise $1500. I believe they will surpass that goal.
Sherri got a call from her husband this afternoon. His Mom,Barbara, was diagnosed with breast cancer today. That is why we now have an "urgent" race for the cure. This just got much more personal for our extended family.
