Most Profitable

I would like to outline my concept for the most monetarily profitable retail nursery that anyone can own. This is purely fictional and an exercise of my creative mind but please indulge me. Relax, because once you read this you will realize that none of this could possibly work in the real world of plant selling in Houston! These principals are numbered in order of importance to profit.

#1. Short pay all your suppliers invoices. Every load that comes in...claim that there were many plants
missing. You can also complain about the quality of the plants and short pay invoices even though
you put the plants into inventory and sell them at full price. It’s not the truth but stealing from your
suppliers helps the margins all year long!

#2. Hide a lot of your sales from the state (sales tax-- stealing it) and federal government (income
tax-evading it). A businessman has to be consistent. Stealing from the state and federal government
is just as important as stealing from your suppliers.

#3. Buy low quality plants but mark them up +500% and advertise that your plants are absolutely the best
and lower priced than the competition!! It’s not the truth...but remember...you have to be
      consistent in business.

#4. Don’t ever pay any supplier that you don’t need to order from again. Order from them on 90 day terms
but refuse to pay for the merchandise. This works up to about $20,000. Above that they might actually
hire a lawyer and sue. Below that number it is unlikely. Greatly helps margins when you run a big
sale. What is so cool is the number of these  suppliers will be almost unlimited and some of them
might even forget and come back for more abuse.

#5. Pay managers more than they could make anywhere else but work them about 80+ hours a week all year
long. Pay everyone else that works in the nursery minimum wage.

#6. Contract grow with three different suppliers for the same product. Negotiate for extremely low prices.
When the crops are ready play one  off the other for a better deal. They are at a disadvantage and you will
get all these plants at much less than you originally negotiated!

#7. Provide absolutely no service. Any interaction with customers, besides at the cash register, is counter
productive to profit so....have no service whatsoever. No phone conversations, no
communication of any kind with customers...happy or not.

#8. Now that the business plan is perfected it would be wise to dramatically increase the number of stores
      to multiply your success.

There you have it. Now what would I do with the business plan that I know would make the most profit? If I submitted this business plan to my banker they would laugh at me. I guess this would never work.

That was fun Victor. I bet if you didn't need the money...and had twice the necessary collateral that many banks would be happy to lend. They really just want the interest and fee income and more than enough collateral so they can't lose.

Honestly that sounds like one of my friends. Maybe not the whole list - but she owns several sushi restaurants and I would say that she practices at least 4 out of the 8 on your list!
